3D Printing

The creation of a three dimensional printed object is achieved by using additive manufacturing. During this process, an object is created by adding material one thin layer at a time as opposed to subtractive methods which begin with an object and remove material until the desired shape is achieved.

3D printing technology is often used for rapid prototyping as it enables you to produce complex shapes using less material than traditional manufacturing methods. And unlike injection molding – where objects are printed in mass – 3D printing technology makes it possible to customize individual objects.

There are several methods of 3D printing. TMI uses the Fusion Deposition Modeling (FDM) method utilizing Creality Ender 3 Pro and V2 printers. For this particular process, filament material enters in one end of the printer through a heated nozzle and is then deposited into .2 millimeter layers repeatedly until the desired three dimensional solid object has emerged.
